02 March 2011Sustainable cultivation meets with extensive interest

In the second half of March, an independent jury of experts will be meeting to confer the Nature Counts predicate to growers whose cultivation methods have become demonstrably more sustainable.

The aspects on which the candidates are to be assessed include energy consumption, crop protection, nature and landscape, transparency, waste, water and staff. To be eligible for the Nature Counts label, candidates are required to score exceptionally high on one of the themes and well on the others. The predicate is awarded twice a year to frontrunners in the sector in the area of sustainability.

Sustainable cultivation has met with extensive interest among growers. This is confirmed by the large number of applications for the Nature Counts predicate. Growers are also currently involved in a large number of projects in which groundbreaking steps are being taken towards more sustainable cultivation and which have strong potential for a Nature Counts predicate in future.

The names of the next group of growers to receive the predicate will be announced at the Coforta Day to be held on 24 March. Former receivers of the predicate are A+G van den Bosch, Greenco and TW van Noord.
